When I Met Weird Al Yankovic

Weird Al Yankovic is an interesting character... and he's somebody I was obsessed with as a teen. I *ahem* shared some albums that some friends may have gotten off of Napster back in the early 2000s, and many of the songs I rocked out to weren't actual pop songs from the day, but a parody of pop songs, recorded by none other than Weird Al. Honestly, I listened to him so much that half his songs didn't even seem funny to me, since I didn't even know what they were a parody of. I'll bet my experience Read More

When I Met Astronaut Charlie Duke

Today, I went to a luncheon and got to hear from General Charlie Duke, a former NASA Astronaut. He spent 71 hours on the surface of the moon with Apollo 16, and was the backup lunar pilot for Apollo 13.Funny enough, he's also the one who infamously caught the German measles back in the days of Apollo 13 and exposed fellow pilot Ken Mattingly to it, which caused him to be replaced by Jack Swigert. (If you've seen the movie Apollo 13, you know what this is all about).Pretty cool guy, and amazing story. Read More

When I Met Brian Dennehy

Earlier this week, the actor Brian Dennehy came to Colorado Springs (UCCS, more specifically, where I'm a student on a very part-time basis). I signed up for the opportunity, since I was interested, and the event was free. (For those who don't recognize his name immediately, he voiced the father rat in Pixar's Ratatouille; played the obnoxious sheriff in Rambo: First Blood; and played the father in Tommy Boy, among many other roles). He had come in the day before to do a masterclass with the theater Read More

Steve Wozniak in Colorado Springs

Earlier this week, I went to go see Steve Wozniak speak right here in Colorado Springs. He came to an event put on by the Business Journal called "Celebrate Technology" at a great new venue, The Pinery At the Hill. For those who may not know, Steve Wozniak is/was the co-founder of what I think is the greatest consumer tech company in the world: Apple, Inc. He started Apple in a garage with Steve Jobs way back in 1976. "Woz," as he's known to Apple Fanboys, was not only the technical brains behind Read More

When I Met General Martin Dempsey

In my spare time, I am a volunteer with a little marketing group in town called COSthink. We meet twice a month take on marketing projects for local organizations that need help with their marketing but don't know where to start, or don't have the time or budget to hire a marketing company to help them. Several months ago, we took on a new organization as a "project," and that organization was a Colorado Springs nonprofit called The Home Front Cares. Our challenge: help them figure out how to use Read More
